A national AAI task force of 11 medical immunology educators surveyed 209 U.S. MD and DO schools to identify foundational immunology topics and learning objectives for medical students. They refined the curriculum from 12 to 15 topics, including MHC/T cells, B cells/antibodies, and immune-based assays. Results showed immunology is mostly taught pre-clerkship, often integrated or combined with other content, usually by immunologists or mixed teams. Most respondents felt the coverage was sufficient, though more time was desired. The project aims to guide medical immunology teaching and will be periodically reassessed and published in ImmunoHorizons.
