Video Summary
Alexandra Cermak from the University of Pittsburgh presented research showing that intestinal Tregs take up dietary triglycerides from chylomicrons through receptors like LDLR and CD36. Using radioactive lipid tracing and mouse models, her team found that blocking chylomicron uptake preserved Treg survival, increased colonic Tregs, and protected against DSS and adoptive-transfer colitis. In contrast, wild-type chylomicrons reduced Treg viability and increased apoptosis and ROS. The study suggests that dietary lipid transport via chylomicrons can regulate intestinal Treg survival and may offer a new therapeutic target for inflammatory bowel disease.
