Video Summary
The talk described research on cytotoxic CD4 T cells during acute and chronic LCMV viral infection. Using adoptive transfer and cytotoxicity assays, the team found CD4 T cells can directly kill target cells in both settings, but this function is reduced during chronic infection due to T cell exhaustion. Perforin was shown to contribute partially to killing. A bone marrow chimera model suggested CD4 T cells may eliminate virally infected CD8alpha dendritic cells, especially in chronic infection, potentially improving antigen presentation and T cell responses.
