Video Summary
The speaker described how UVB phototherapy modulates T-cell immunity in skin disease. Using mouse single-cell analyses and human vitiligo samples, the study found two main systemic effects: expansion of activated regulatory T cells driven by inflammatory cytokines, and induction of CD4 T-cell anergy caused by missing co-stimulation. UVB also reduced pathogenic gamma-delta T cells in skin-draining lymph nodes. In humans, phototherapy shifted T-cell profiles toward healthier patterns and reduced memory T-cell populations. Overall, chronic inflammatory cytokine exposure appears to paradoxically suppress T-cell responses, making UVB a unique immunosuppressive treatment.
